Discover Diwali Indian Cuisine, a culinary gem located at 1499 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94110, United States. As a food blogger passionate about uncovering standout local dining experiences, I was excited to explore Diwali Indian Cuisine in San Francisco—a restaurant that has steadily built a reputation among the best restaurants in San Francisco for its bold flavors and authentic approach to Indian cooking.
Diwali Indian Cuisine offers a diverse menu rooted in traditional North Indian recipes, with subtle modern touches that elevate each dish. From rich curries to tandoori specialties, the restaurant captures the essence of Indian comfort food while maintaining consistency and quality. Prices are reasonable for the area, with most entrees ranging between $14 and $22, making it a solid choice for both casual dinners and relaxed weekend outings. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are clearly marked, adding to its accessibility.
Among the standout dishes, the Butter Chicken is a crowd favorite—creamy, aromatic, and perfectly balanced with tender pieces of chicken that melt in your mouth. The Lamb Vindaloo delivers a spicier punch, layered with tangy and robust flavors that linger pleasantly. For a vegetarian option, the Paneer Tikka Masala impresses with its smoky grilled cheese cubes simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce. Pair these with freshly baked garlic naan, and you have a meal that showcases why Diwali Indian Cuisine continues to draw loyal diners.
Customer reviews highlight both the food and service. One guest noted, “The flavors are incredibly authentic—every bite reminds me of home,” while another praised the “quick service and consistently delicious dishes.” These insights reflect a strong performance in key decision factors: flavor authenticity, portion size, and service efficiency.
The ambiance at Diwali Indian Cuisine in San Francisco is warm and inviting, with colorful accents and subtle Indian-inspired décor that create a cozy yet lively dining environment. Soft lighting and neatly arranged seating make it suitable for both intimate dinners and small group gatherings. The restaurant also offers takeout and delivery, catering to the fast-paced lifestyle of the city.
A special touch that sets Diwali Indian Cuisine apart is its dessert selection. The Gulab Jamun—soft, syrup-soaked dumplings—provides a sweet and satisfying finish, while the Mango Lassi offers a refreshing balance to the spice-forward dishes. These thoughtful additions enhance the overall dining experience.
Compared to other local dining experiences, Diwali Indian Cuisine excels in delivering authentic flavors without overwhelming complexity. While some competitors may lean heavily into fusion, this spot remains grounded in tradition, which is exactly what many diners seek.
If you’re exploring the best restaurants in San Francisco and craving rich, flavorful Indian cuisine, Diwali Indian Cuisine is a must-visit. With its inviting atmosphere, well-crafted menu, and strong customer praise, it offers a memorable dining experience that keeps you coming back for more.

“ Amal went above and beyond — incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help. If you're unsure what to order, definitely ask for Amal. He’ll guide you based on your preferences and give you thoughtful recommendations. I recently discovered this new restaurant, and it instantly became a favorite — especially for one standout dish: Chicken 65. Chicken 65 at this place is the best of all restaurants that I’ve tried in all of San Francisco and San Jose. Tastes exactly like the original version from Chennai, South India. Bravo to the Chef for bringing back the true authentic taste. Chicken 65 is not spicy, it’s mild and can taste the Flavors better. Masala Dosa is a 10/10. The restaurant itself is clean and welcoming — a perfect place for both quick bites and relaxed meals. If you're on the hunt for authentic South Indian flavors in the Bay Area, look no further. Here’s what I Ordered: Chicken 65 (vibrant red, mild spicy) Masala Dosa (has stuffed potatoes) Mango Lassi Drink (cool, refreshing, and not overly sweet) Restroom Never seen such a clean Restroom, that speaks high attention to detail. Extremely clean, super impressed how spotless they've cared for this place. ”
“ The food was unbelievably delicious with plenty of options. My favorite was the Chettinad Chicken please eat that. And the naan was perfectly fluffy. Also the rice was insanely good idk how they did that it's better than normal rice. I don't have the vocabulary To describe how delicious this was! The ambience of the restaurant was perfect. Dim lights and chatter, it feels like the perfect cozy dinner environment. Also amazing service!!! Go support this new wonderful restaurant ”
“ Best Indian food I’ve had in SF in a while. Delicious food with amazing service. Highly recommend supporting this family run business! This is the same spot as Dosa Corner, just under new ownership. The service was amazing and the interior was cozy. The owners were so sweet and attentive, both helped us out with choosing what to order. They recently opened this restaurant and were open to hear any feedback from us on how they can improve their service. They even offered us dessert (halwa) on the house! We ordered a masala dosa and chicken biryani for two. The portion sizing was so big that we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day! The masala dosa was very good and tasted quite authentic. The biryani and raita was another highlight. This is definitely going to be one of my regular spots! ”
“ Diwali Indian Cuisine is a gem! The food is flavorful, fresh, and absolutely delicious—every bite is a treat. The manager is the highlight of the experience: super friendly, welcoming, and genuinely funny. He had us laughing the whole time—honestly, he could do stand-up comedy on the side! Great food, great vibes, and great people. Highly recommend! ”
“ We had such a wonderful experience at Diwali Indian Cuisine! The food was absolutely delicious - we had tandoor chicken, king fish curry, garlic naan, tandoori roti and Nutella dosa for our kid - full of authentic flavors. The ambience was warm and welcoming. A special shoutout to Kamala, the host and owner—she’s incredibly kind, down to earth, and made us feel right at home. Truly a gem of a restaurant. Highly recommend! ”
“ We love Indian food, this restaurant with new owner have some of the best home made genuine fresh flavors I have ever tasted. We truly hit gem here. Every dish is prepared with so much care and the flavors are amazing. Unique, fresh and authentic. Probably the very best Indian restaurant in the mission district so far. Our pictures don't give justice also because we took them after we ate some of the food already... One of the best chicken biryani, tasty paneer appetizer, amazing chai, fish curry.... Veggie curry was amazing too. Different from any curry I tasted ”
“ AMAZING food, even amazing service. The hosts are so friendly, sweet and welcoming. The chicken 65 and vijaywara chicken biryani is our favourite. We have been here 5 times in 3 weeks already!! Also the music here is so beautiful, full old Indian songs - reminds me of home every time. ”
